WAR TOUR

1992-1995

The war in Bosnia and Herzegovina is a generally accepted term for an international military conflict on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina between Serbia and Montenegro, Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republic of Croatia which lasted from April 6, 1992 to December 14, 1995.

The war is often labelled as an Aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina and a Civil War in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia and Herzegovina officially filed an indictment before the International Court of Justice against Serbia and Montenegro for crimes of genocide. On February 21, 2007 the Court ruled that the war had carried an international character. It is estimated that between 100,000 and 200,000 people were killed in nearly four years of conflict with more than two million people who left their homes. According to the latest reports, the war inflicted 94,000 casualties and 1.8 million people were displaced. The war was caused by a complex combination of the general politics, the social and security crisis in the country which had followed after the end of the Cold War and the fall of the socialist movement in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The war concluded with the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement on November 21, 1995.
