What is known for sure is that people settled in this intact country 10,000 years ago starting with the native Illyrian and Thracian tribes to the Romans, the Byzantine and the Slavic people and all the way to the Ottoman and the Austro-Hungarian emperors. All these cultures left a significant mark in shaping the country as one of the most religiously versatile nations in Europe. It is here that the Christianity and Islam from the East are mixed with the Christianity and Judaism from the West.
